In the past week we have had the opportunity to showcase our beautiful school to 31 new families through school tours and the open day on Tuesday. I asked some of our fabulous Year 6 leaders to take these tours; as who are better qualified to talk about an experience of attending St Mary's than our students! I am really proud of the way they conducted themselves and their contributions to our community. They received lots of praise and appreciation from the families they talked to.
On Thursday, our school captains, vice captains, environment leaders and mission leaders visited the Triple M studio in Orange to record a radio advertisement at the Triple M studio for Kindergarten enrolments for 2025. They did a brilliant job! Listen out for their advertisement during the second half of March and into April. More student voice in action.
Regarding enrolments, we prioritise our existing families, so could you please contact the office for an enrolment pack or apply online if you have a child who is starting Kindergarten in 2025. Thank you.
In the lead up to the soccer season we have many keen players enthusiastically practising their skills on the playground. As such there has been a rise in some children reporting to the office saying, 'he kicked me' and/ or 'he tripped me over'. As the game of soccer involves players vying to kick one ball, inevitably shins will be kicked and trips will happen, as children master their skills of dribbling, passing, defending and shooting. Unless we ban soccer at school, which we really don't want to do, these incidents will keep happening. Can I ask you please to talk with your children about this, as the take on the language used here is important. That is, perhaps it should be 'I got kicked playing soccer' rather than 'he kicked me'.
You may be aware that St Mary's teachers provide free lunchtime clubs throughout the week for our students. The purpose of the clubs is to provide opportunities for students to broaden their interests as well as have an alternative to playground games. For your information, the table below displays what is on offer for our students this term. Again, please discuss these with your child and encourage them to participate if there is something of interest.
Wsihing you a wonderful weekend when it arrives,
Gayle Stratton

The third week of Lent calls us to deepen our spiritual practices of prayer, fasting, and almsgiving, following Jesus's example of preparation for Easter. Through reflection, prayer, fasting, and acts of charity, we seek to draw closer to God, repent our sins, and renew our commitment to Him. As a community, we support each other on this journey, aiming to emerge from Lent renewed in faith, hope, and love, ready to celebrate Christ's resurrection.

Assistant Principal and Primary Coordinator curriculum meeting
Last week Mrs Sally Curran and Mrs Rachel Cranney attended the Primary Curriculum Leaders meeting in Bathurst. Teachers had the opportinity to participate in 'have your say' in new syllabus documents and give professional feedback to the New South Wales Education Standard Authority (NESA) about the new Human Society in its Environment, Creative Arts, Science and Personal Development Health and Physical Education documents.
NESA provides advice about schooling in New South Wales. Find out about learning of all stages of development.
This week teachers at St Mary's have embraced webinar week; a variety of educational webinars to continue their professional learning. Webinar topics included: Improving Student Attendance at School, Quick Wins in Student Wellbeing, The English Syllabus, Supporting Students with Autism in the Classroom, Religious Education- To Know, Worship and Love Updates and Resources and STEM project possibilities.
Over the course of Thursday 7th & Friday 22nd March parents/carers of our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students will be invited to be part of a relaxed and collaborate conversation with their child, class teacher and Mr Benton to help create academic, cultural and social goals for 2024. These will be recorded on a proforma and tracked by Mr Ben, parents and the class teacher throughout the year. Students have a voice in the way they like to learn and how they would like to celebrate their goals.
In the past some students have chosen to create some fabulous Aboriginal art activities with Mr Benton, or learn more about their culture. These Personalised Learning Plans are also a requirement from the Catholic Education Diocese, Bathurst. Invitations to the meeting have been emailed to parents. We look forward to seeing you at the meeting and working together to help your child achieve their goals.
Brilliant at Being Resilient
Our visiting performance on Monday used stories, poetry, fractured fairy tales, illusions and loads of humour to explore the value of resilience and tolerance as well as getting across the message that bullying is never acceptable. We work on giving this message to our students continually. Students learned that by exploring different perspectives, listening and having empathy for others, we can solve friendship problems more readily and maintain positive relationships with others.
